Records for Writers - KGNU/Suspect Press Monthly DJ Event

Nearly every writer has their own personal music selection they like to write to, whether it’s Bukowski with Wagner, or Chuck Klosterman with Black Sabbath. Set in the cozy bohemian library of Mutiny Information Cafe—the Baker neighborhood’s premier books and records shop—this monthly event features writers from Suspect Press magazine and KGNU Community Radio spinning all vinyl sets of their favorite records to write to, along with regular guest DJ’s from the Denver arts scene revealing their own playlists that inspire creativity.

This event will run from 8pm - Midnight each month in collaboration with KGNU and Suspect Press. A great place for DJs to collaborate with writers as well as other DJs and people off the street!

Also, if there are open slots on the chalk board, take a chance at coming and spinning.

(Art&) Panel with Daniel Landes and Josiah Hesse

Come hear Suspect Press's Daniel Landes and Josiah Hesse talk about DIY publishing, the Denver arts community and the economics of creativity.

Art& will be held at the McNichols Civic Center Building in Civic Center Park, and will explore the collaboration between art and life; how civics, entrepreneurship, livelihood, social policy and technology all play a role in art’s successes and failures, and often, how those critical aspects of life are impacted by the creative process itself.

Panel discussions, interactive workshops and creative demonstrations will feature experts from various industries, sectors and fields, all of which share a relationship with art. Presenters range from both Denver District Attorney Candidates and the head of Denver Health to Colorado’s most acclaimed poets and street artists, as well as numerous business owners and civil rights activists. A collage of local artists will also be on display, along with booth spaces for local service providers geared towards supporting Denver’s creative communities.

Revolt To What? Release Party

This Friday, October 14, Suspect Press co-founder Daniel Landes will read from his graphic short-story, "Revolt To What?" A story of post-revolution angst in 90s Prague, Landes' characters debate the unexpected downsides to the fall of communism, all while dealing with the hangovers, lust and idealism of a politically charged youth.

Landes will be joined by his illustration collaborator, Karl Christian Krumpholz, for a live discussion about the book with Suspect Press editor Josiah Hesse.

The evening will also be seasoned by readings from Denver poet Mathias Svalina, and musician Joe Sampson.
